With NSW Children’s WeekTM beginning this Saturday, 20 October, NSW Commissioner for Children and Young People, Megan Mitchell, is reminding organisations that work with children that there is still time to register their Children’s Week event.

To organise, register, or find events and activities, go to www.nswchildrensweek.org.au, where you can also learn about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and Universal Children’s Day.

Commissioner Mitchell said Children’s Week is a great way to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution that children make to our community.

“I encourage organisations across NSW to join the hundreds of schools, childcare centres, playgroups, libraries, cultural and community groups, who will be participating in Children’s Week this year.”

Children’s Week will be held 20–28 October, and is organised by the NSW Children’s Week Council Inc.

Council Chair, Jennifer Evans, of Australian Red Cross, said Children’s Week was also a great opportunity for younger children to be able to display their talents, skills and achievements.

“It is important that as a society we give strong messages on the importance of childhood and having a good start in life, so it is fantastic to see the enthusiasm for celebrating Children’s Week in NSW,” Ms Evans said.

The NSW Children’s Week Committee is comprised of the Australian Red Cross, NSW Commission for Children and Young People, Network of Community Activities, Community Connections Solutions Australia, Ethnic Child Care, Family and Community Services Cooperative, NSW Family Day Care Association, Playgroup NSW, Community Child Care Co-operative and Contact Inc. Organisations are being encouraged to help ‘celebrate the right of children to enjoy childhood’ and register their Children’s Week events on the official website.
